Historical Significance
Known as an architectural gem, Wilton House was the home of a wealthy tobacco planter in the colonial period who one of the largest slave owners in 1760. The museum houses an outstanding collection of period furnishings, which are employed to tell the stories of gentry & slave life in the colonial period.
Physical Description
Wilton House is a Georgian mansion built in 1753. Moved from the original site to its present location in 1934, the house is located on the north bank of the James River.
